Nine Best Inexpensive Bubblies For New Years Eve!
We want to celebrate the end of 2020 as much as welcoming the New Year 2021 but we are not really sure that Champagne feels appropriate this year so, while we really don’t have a wide selection of sparkling wines to choose from here in Ontario, here are some great choices at excellent prices.
But, at these prices you don’t need to wait until New Years to brighten up your day with a glass of the sparkling stuff, here are nine which we are happy to recommend – Cremants and a Rose from France, Cavas from Spain, Proseccos from Italy, and a bargain basement low alcohol sweet bubbly.
And, three of them are on sale right now.
But, we are really fortunate to be living in Canada so let’s kick it off with the Lily Sparkling Rose from our Niagara region.

Lily Sparkling Rose VQA (Canada: Ontario - $16.95 on sale, save $1.00)
A sweeter style with fresh berries, red fruit and grapefruit tastes joined by newly baked bread notes on the finish.
The fine bubbles contribute to a creamy texture and the winemaker suggests erving with savoury crepes, salads or freshly picked berries.
ABV 12.0%, sugar 23 g/L.
Louis Bouillot Perle d’Aurore Brut Rose Cremant de Bourgogne (France: Burgundy - $22.95)
Slightly out of our usual price range but this special occasion wine is well worth it with its flavours of wild strawberries, raspberries and red cherries.
The wine is crisp and well balanced with persistent bubbles leading to a smooth satisfying finish.

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva Cava (Spain - $16.05)

Great balance in a medium body with a refreshing finish.

Freixenet Carta Nevada Brut Cava (Spain - $13.45)
That familiar gold bottle offers terrific value with aromas of apples and pears which are joined on the palate with tastes of citrus and toast.
Medium bodied with fizzy bubbles, serve as an aperitif or with a cured meat and cheese platter.

Fiol Prosecco (Italy: Veneto - $16.25)
Our followers favourite Prosecco at this price point, the bouquet is floral and followed by flavours of green apples, pears, citrus and brioche.
Small and persistent bubbles give a creamy mouthfeel, a highly versatile wine to sip or serve with lighter fare.

Blu Giovello Prosecco (Italy: Veneto - $14.60 on sale, save $1.50)
Look for the bright blue bottle, you will encounter aromas and tastes of pineapple, yellow pears and lemon zest in a light to medium bodied wine with soft bubbles.
Light and refreshing, a hint of sweetness prevents it from being too acidic, a real crowd pleaser.
