Vicente Faria Animus Douro ($9.95, reduced from $11.95)

Portugal: Douro

Not sure exactly what that name means but this is a highly popular wine, terrific value.

Bursting with black fruit aromas and tastes with background notes of plums and black cherries.

There is a hint of sweetness which makes it a good pairing with beef or venison stew.

ABV 13.0%, 8 g/L residual sugar.

Pepperwood Grove Old Vine Zinfandel ($11.95, reduced from $13.95)

Not often do we see a California Zinfandel offered at this low price, this off dry version has loads of dark plum and berries, oak, vanilla and tobacco flavours.

Medium bodied, it is smooth drinking with a touch of spice on a long finish.

We suggest pairing it with grilled pork loin chops in a soy ginger maple syrup marinade.

ABV 14.0%, 9 g/L residual sugar.

McGuigan Black Label Pinot Grigio ($8.95, reduced from $9.95)

Australia: Southeastern Australia

A great price for this delightful wine which has more fruit and body than most Pinot Grigios.

Expect tropical fruit on the nose followed by a melange of flavours including pineapple, pear, apple, melon and peach.

Fruity but crisp and refreshing, serve it with light chicken or fish dishes.

ABV 12.5%, 11 g/L residual sugar.

Vina Tarapaca Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon ($11.90, reduced from $13.90)

Chile

Super price for this bold but lively and juicy wine with flavours of plums and dark fruit with hints of smoke and spice.

Medium bodied with light tannins which dissipate with breathing, it has a nice finish for a very dry wine.

Serve it with fully dressed hamburgers or veggie burgers.

ABV 13.5%, 2 g/L residual sugar.

Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc ($13.95, reduced from $15.95)

New Zealand: Marlborough

Bargain bin special, this is as good as any of the many New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs selling at $20.

Grapefruit and tropical fruit aromas are joined on the palate by tastes of green apples and melons in a wine which has a touch of fizz and lively acidity with a pleasing finish.

Enjoy it with pan fried or baked white fish like haddock .

ABV 12.5%, 3 g/L residual sugar.
